Medal Monday

Today I needed to get a few miles in, but for some reason I couldn’t find any motivation to go outside. So I hopped on my treadmill and put on some Hulu to get a few miles in.

The treadmill sucks. It just does. I was so bored even with the TV going. I barely achieved my goal. It just sucked. I hate how I will be running at an easy 11minute pace, but on the treadmill it feels like I am doing a 9min. But I did something, better than nothing. I took a picture for Strava and reflected on the medals behind me on the treadmill. It is finally time for me to arrange them in a presentable fashion. I started to a few weeks ago, but ran out of ribbon clips. Today I grabbed some paper clips hoping they will hold.

I am so proud of each of these medals. Even the stupid virtual races from the beginning of the year when I didn’t know how easy it was to find virtual races and get much better medals. Those are the medals that got me moving. That is where I got my start.

Then I will always love my Shamrock 8K medal, my first race. Nothing beats that feeling. I laugh at myself not almost in tears finishing “only” an 8K when I completed three half marathons by the end of the year. It is still something to be proud of though. It took a lot of strength for me to just overcome my anxiety and pick up my packet at the expo.

Then I was hooked though. I completed several raced during the spring months as well as the Hogwarts Running Club Races to keep me motivated for longer (or any) training runs.

I took the Summer off to spend time with my husband when he came home from deployment. I went to the gym and I played pokemon go. Better than nothing right?

Then I had my first (and very disappointing) half marathon. An experience I will blog about eventually. Still proud to have finished and I had a wonderful time overall, but I didn’t get that runners high. I finished swolen and defeated. SO I signed up for another one… and in May I had already signed up for on in November. So my fall was spent with 5ks, 10ks, and half marathons. I finished the year with two really fun Christmas Runs- one was through Busch Gardens and the other broke the world record for the largest Santa Run!

It was a great year finding my stride. I can’t wait to see what the next year will bring!
